The only real reason to call up Rosario right now is for his defense. A majority of prospects struggle at the plate their rookie year, even ones who are more polished than Rosario is right now. Not sure why people are really expecting him to come up and immediately help the offense

Ooh shiny new things!

Because Reyes is a nightmare, his defense will help, he'll add more speed, his ability to make contact should help us manufacture a few more runs (we don't need to score 8 to win most nights)......and maybe his bat is ready. What does a short stint at the MLB level hurt? If it works out he stays. If not he goes back down and gets things ironed out.

Sure but you can't use the speed if you're not getting on base.

Maybe Rosario comes up and helps at the plate but the odds are against it. There's a reason there's only a handful of people who even have a chance of winning ROTY each year and a lot of the time those guys had experience the prior year.

There seems to be a theory that if the Mets call up a heralded prospect and he struggles at the plate, they have ruined his entire career. And if he is called up and sent back down, he'll be emotionally scarred forever.

Whereas if another team calls up a touted prospect and he struggles a the plate, everybody understands he needs time to adjust.

Right now all he has to do to improve the offense is to hit higher than .150

Are we still really comparing people in their early 20's to people in their late 20's

Campbell didn't beat up the Eastern League like Rosario did last year as a 20 year old. Rosario had nearly a .400 OBP and hit .341 at AA last year in 237 PA's. Between High A and AA last year he hit .324 with a .374 OBP. The kid can hit.

It's not like he's hitting fly balls that become homers, he's spraying line drives everywhere

This...the BP guys, Patanastro specifically, pointed this out, saying he'd be more concerned if Rosario was on a Vegas induced power surge. He is hitting line drives. Patanastro said it is a joke that Rosario isn't in the MLB right now.
