Quote:
On Aug. 31, less than two months before he was named Sox manager and at a time of peak anxiety off the field, Cora cursed out Astros broadcaster Geoff Blum on a team bus heading from the airport to the stadium in Houston. When the bus arrived at the Astros’ Minute Maid Park, Cora went off again, screaming at his boss, Astros manager A.J. Hinch.

Both expletive-filled episodes were visible to a large number of the Astros’ traveling party. The confrontations were described to NBC Sports Boston by multiple people with direct knowledge of them, including witnesses.

Whether the lack of self-control Cora displayed proves a footnote to Cora’s coaching career or an omen entering his first managerial gig is to be seen.

Multiple sources said Cora had been drinking and that it contributed to his behavior. It is not uncommon for players or staff to drink on travel days. There is no indication Cora has a recurring issue controlling his alcohol intake.

Cora declined comment on specifics of what transpired. Blum and Hinch declined any comment.

Cora is going to drink the Sawx into last place and Mickey Callaway is going to hug us straight to a world championship.

I'll give Mickey Callaway a mouth hug if he gets us a title.

If only playing for the Mets drew him to the bottle what would managing them do?

I don't know what to make of Francona's unmitigated praise...cool, I guess.

To the contrary, Callaway on Tuesday said he’s all about accountability, which he says starts with building those caring relationships with individual players so that he can be tough on them and still have their trust.

“I’m not here to tell them everything is ok when they make mistakes,” he said. “I will hold them accountable, but what’s more important is that they hold each other accountable and they buy in to a culture of winning.”

So while Familia is the obvious choice as closer, based on the success he had in 2015 and ’16, before needing surgery for an arterial blood clot in his shoulder last season, the new manager made a point of saying there will be nights when Familia will pitch in the seventh inning if the situation calls for it.

Callaway said such decisions will be based on pre-game study of potential matchups, as well as which pitchers are freshest. And if the hitters with whom Familia matches up best are coming up in the seventh inning of a close game, he’ll know to be ready mentally for an early call.

Lukewarm at best on this team, but very anxious to see the effect Callaway has on this group.

2015 Mets win the World Series with him.

What really kills me about that series is how the 2015 Royals were finishing what the 2014 Royals almost accomplished - which had been a turnaround story I was rooting for, in the absence of a Mets turnaround that season.

OK, so the 2015 Royals pulled off a magic series, coming back to win 3 of the 4 games from the 8th inning onwards. I obviously hated that it had been against the Mets, but against any other opponent, I'd have been pulling hard for the Royals.

But hey, the NL Champion Mets were well set up to be back in the Series again soon too, right? And then it'd be the Mets' turn to finish the job. Unlike the Royals, the Mets would be keeping their core. Especially after they got Cespedes back. And with the Yankees finally on a down cycle, the Mets would have the NY center stage to themselves for a bit for the first time in a long, long time.

I can imagine a world where Hansel Robles becomes the MVP key piece of a Callaway bullpen strategy.

Please don't wake me just yet

In theory this is a great thing, always made the most sense to me, but in reality you have to deal with egos, agents and the fact that the "closer tag" or the save statistic get players larger contracts. Could cause issues in trying to bring over talent.
