I like Allan too, but signing Mangum at significantly under slot is necessary to signing Allan

The fact that they took a teenager and skipped him 3 levels for a look see at AA means they probably really like what they see.

His numbers are 100% irrelevant.

I had no idea about this guy. Of course another team is going to find our diamonds in the rough for themselves (Colin McHugh-esque). That's depressing but at least JD Davis has been good.

They punted an entire fucking draft and whiffed on the signing to make it work. Genius.

Beat writers are saying the Mets still think they can sign Allan. Surprising given how much they just spent on Wolf

I don't see how the math works, they can't be willing to punt a first next year, can they?

I believe if they aren’t able to sign Allan they can still sign Barco or other tough HS signs

Yeah uh no fucking way they get Allan now. They have about $1.6 mil to spend, including his slot. Mangum getting 10k or whatever would give them about $2 mil. I think Allan signing for around $3 mil was feasible but not $2 mil

Throw that money at Barco

How? We lose Allan's slot money if he doesn't sign. Or are you saying Barco signs with our savings from elsewhere?

I assume they drafted Barco as a back-up plan to Allan. Yes, they'd lose the 600k or so in slot value if they lose Allan, but Pickles said he heard Barco would listen at $2 mil and they could perhaps get up to that even without Allan's slot if they're willing to spend in the overage

Mayer said he has sources that say that Allan could still perhaps be had around $2.5 mil, so perhaps that dream isn't dead anyways. But you question why he wasn't taken sooner if he was willing to take that little
