Default Fab Five Starting Pitchers

For a long time Mets fans have alternately said one of the following:

1) "Wow....I can't wait until the day we see Thor, deGrom, Matz, Wheeler and Harvey be our rotation"...or

2) "Those five guys will never, ever take even ONE turn through the rotation together."

Question: If those five guys just make it from now through Spring Training uneventfully/without getting hurt, isn't that our April rotation?

So...maybe this might actually happen? No idea what's up with Harvey, but still.

Wheeler hasn't done enough to automatically have a spot, although we need to see those 5 thru one rotation turn just to say we saw it

So, then there'll be a big marketing campaign?

"Buy tickets to April home games. This might be your only chance to ever see this happen."

i don't give a shit if I see it, because Wheeler will never be a successful starter and there's like a 50% chance Harvey's career is over.

just give me a healthy jake, thor, and matz.

wheeler to the pen.

Wheeler in a Miller role could be filthy. Let him air it out a couple innings every couple/few days.

What happened to Thor?

I can't wait to watch RA Dickey 2.0 aka Mickey Jannis dominate the majors this season

I don't want to get greedy. I'll settle for 4 Horsemen.

If in some bizarro universe where we do have all five, two of them are going to suck and one below average at least.

Matz - DL in 2015. DL in 2016. DL in 2017. Were seeing a pattern.
Wheeler - hurt in each off the last 3 years.

See above. Not pretty.

What's crazy is Lugo and Gsellman are on the outside looking in. Lugo was really good but the WBC did him in I think. He should be good this year, of course, not the third time through the order though LOL. Gsellman was also good. Many years we would have loved to have him as a #5 and he is our 7. The real issue is Harvey was a #1, post injuries he looks like maybe a 5 unless he is touch by Jesus and healed.

Lugo's 2017 ERA is more in-line with his ability than his 2016 ERA, injiries or no injuries. Gsellman probably as well, considering late-2016 was the only time he was ever a high-K guy but maybe he settles in as a GB-dependent middle-of-the-rotation guy. More likely he's a solid reliever.

Also sucks that a bunch had Molina as a middle-of-the-rotation guy before TJS but his stuff looked depleted in 2017. Fingers crossed he bounces back.

These guys are lotto tickets and we need someone to be a stable presence so that we only have two spots in the rotation that may be terrible and not three.

I think that Lugo and Matz could be useful RPs if you tried to keep the appearances down while throwing them multiple innings per appearance.

Say, 35 appearances and 70 to 80 innings. Rest them almost like starters, but dont ask for the innings per game a starter would give. 70 to 80 good innings out of a RP is very valuable, but I dont see either guy taking the ball 70 or 80 times.
