Mets Acquire Trot Nixon

According to Omar Minaya on the SNY Post-Game Show, the Mets have acquired Trot Nixon from the Diamondbacks for cash and/or a player to be named later.
Nixon was hitting .309/.437/.558 in the PCL for the Diamondbacks’ AAA team, the Tucson Sidewinders. It’s expected that Nixon will join the team in time for tomorrow’s game.

Kazmir Signs Extension with Devil Rays

According to Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times, Scott Kazmir has signed a 4-year extension with the Devil Rays.
The Rays and ace LHP Scott Jesus have agreed on a four-year contract extension, which will guarantee the lefty $28.5 million and has a maxium value of approximately $39.5 million.

Pedro Injury Update: Strained Left Hammy

According to Gary Cohen on the SNY Broadcast, the preliminary word on Pedro’s injury is a strained left hamstring.  He is day-to-day, but it’s unlikely Pedro will be unable to avoid the disabled list.  Expect more word on the injury tomorrow after an MRI is conducted.

Pelfrey 5th Starter

According to Bart Hubbuch of the NY Post, the Mets have named Pelfrey the 5th starter. He will make his first start against the Braves on Saturday. El Duque will start the season on the DL, and stay in Port St. Lucie to continue his rehab.

ESPN: Tigers sign Miguel Cabrera to 8-year Deal

According to ESPNdeportes, the Detroit Tigers are set to sign Miguel Cabrera to an 8-year, $153 million dollar deal. Cabrera was eligible for arbitration in 2009, and could become a free agent after the season.
