Mets Refugees Top 10 Prospects List
By Jason E | February 22, 2008
Voting has concluded and the people have spoken. Without further ado, the Mets Refugees community top prospect list:
1. Fernando Martinez, OF, Age 19
An easy choice for the honor of top Mets prospect, Martinez should hit for both average and power.
2. Brant Rustich, RHP, Age 23
Big right-hander gets swings and misses with a mid-90s fastball and hard slider; command will determine how far he goes.
3. Eddie Kunz, RHP, Age 21
Potential closer gets groundballs with devastating, power sinker and strikeouts with a late-breaking slider; could reach the majors in his first full season as a pro.
4. Jon Niese, LHP, Age 21
Lefty with good command, a big curve, and fastball that can break 90 mph profiles as a middle of the rotation starter.
5. Bobby Parnell, RHP, Age 23
Fastball jumped into the mid-90s this season and still has great movement; must become more consistent with slider and command.
6. Nick Evans, 1B, Age 22
Evans displayed vastly improved plate discipline in 2007; if he can keep it up, big raw power and ability to mash lhp will get him to the show.
7. Nathan Vineyard, LHP, Age 19
High school draftee relies on plus slider to get outs, but will need to develop his other pitches.
8. Ruben Tejada, SS, Age 18
Very solid on defense and projects to hit for a high average at the plate; 19 walks against only 16 strikeouts in the Gulf Coast League.
9. Wilmer Flores, SS, Age 16
Top player in strong 2007 international class; club believes he has superstar potential. May outgrow shortstop.
10. Scott Moviel, RHP, Age 19
Huge, 6′11 righty has already hit 94 mph and projects to gain even more velocity. Secondary pitches are works in progress, but big time upside here.
