Mets Sign Matt Wise To A One Year Deal

By Doug R. | December 18, 2007

According to Mets.com, the Mets have signed 32 year old right hander Matt Wise to a one year contract.

“Matt has had success in a variety of roles,” said Mets General Manager Omar Minaya. “He adds a versatile arm to the bullpen.”

Wise had a fantastic first half for the Brewers, but a shoulder injury effected his second half and was ultimately shut down in mid-September. He also suffered some mental setbacks after hitting Pedro Lopez in the face.

“‘Wiser,’ I think, is still battling the after-effects of hitting that guy in the face,” manager Ned Yost said. “He’s not himself out there right now. We’re going to have to review it and go over it as a staff.”

Wise adds another arm for Willie to look at in the pen, and after it was all said and done the Mets basically traded Mota for Wise. I think the Mets come out on top in that deal.

“I’m ecstatic to join the Mets,” said Wise. “I look forward to helping out in whatever role Willie Randolph wants.”
