Dodgers Sign Hiroki Kuroda To A Ridiculous Contract

By Doug R. | December 15, 2007

According to the Los Angeles Daily News the Dodgers and Japanese import Hiroki Kuroda agreed to a three year deal worth $36 to $40 million dollars.

The market is just outrageous at this point, has anyone learned from Keg Igawa? Kuroda projects to be at best a fourth starter and is another unproven Japanese import.

There really hasn’t been one Japanese pitcher that has sustained success in the majors, (Dice-K obviously hit a wall at the end of the season and is a wait and see candidate at this point) so this is definitely a major risk for the Dodgers.

To give $36-$40 million dollars while guys like Kyle Loshe or Carlos Silva are still on the free agent market, and Eric Bedard, Johan Santana and Joe Blanton are all available in the trade front, it seems as though the Dodgers are making this move for the high risk/high reward benefits as well as the improved income and marketing by adding a Japanese star.

All I can say is that I’m glad Omar stayed far, far away.
