Target Locked: Dan Haren
By Doug R. | November 30, 2007
As the fallout from the Lastings Milledge trade starts to settle many are left to think “What’s next for the Mets?”
The Orioles seemingly or at least right now, don’t have interest in the packages the Mets are offering for Erik Bedard. With Johan Santana apparently a long shot the next logical target for the Mets would be Oakland A’s right hander Dan Haren.
Haren has been nothing less than impressive since being traded to Oakland
| Year | Wins | Losses | GS | IP | H | ER | HR | BB | SO | ERA | ERA+ | WHIP |
| 2005 | 14 | 12 | 34 | 217.0 | 212 | 90 | 26 | 53 | 163 | 3.73 | 117 | 1.22 |
| 2006 | 14 | 13 | 34 | 223.0 | 224 | 102 | 31 | 45 | 176 | 4.12 | 108 | 1.20 |
| 2007 | 15 | 9 | 34 | 222.7 | 214 | 76 | 24 | 55 | 192 | 3.07 | 137 | 1.20 |
A move to the N.L. would make Haren an even more dominant pitcher as the average ERA+ of a pitcher moving from the AL to the NL is about a thirteen percent jump.
His 3.07 ERA would have ranked fourth in the NL last season, and if he gets the boost from the weaker NL hitting he would see his ERA dip into the 2’s.
His strikeout to walk ratio is fantastic and has put up WHIPs that would consistently rank in the top ten of the NL.
Although he seeming gives up a larger amount of homeruns then you would like to see from an ace, he gave up a homerun in eighteen starts, seventeen of the twenty four were solo homeruns last year.
Haren averages nearly seven innings a start, has a very solid G/F ratio and been consistently healthy through most of his career.
This is the guy we need.
What is it going to take? I would guess at least a package of Gomez, Pelfrey and Humber/Mulvey.
Talk about it here
