Jose Guillen To Replace Milledge?

By Doug R. | November 30, 2007

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com reports that the Mets might be pursuing outfielder Jose Guillen as a possible replacement if Lastings Milledge is dealt.

The Mets remain aggressive on free-agent right-hander Livan Hernandez, and some believe GM Omar Minaya is interested in signing outfielder Jose Guillen if he trades Lastings Milledge and/or Carlos Gomez. Others with knowledge of the Mets’ plans say there is no way that they will pursue Guillen, who is one of the Royals’ primary targets.

No thank you. Headcase to the max.

In other Rosenthal tidbids:

The White Sox have backed off free-agent center fielder Aaron Rowand because they prefer to sign him for four years rather than five years, according to a source with knowledge. The Sox are among the teams interested in Japanese free-agent outfielder Kosuke Fukudome, a rival GM says, and also are exploring a possible deal for Pirates left fielder Jason Bay. The Cubs also are pursuing Fukudome and waiting to hear from another Japanese player, free-agent second baseman Kaz Matsui.

Two players who are seriously exposing an awful market. I’m hoping Omar stays far, far away from Rowand and Fukudome.

The Twins ideally want a young third baseman in a package for Santana, and neither the Yankees nor Red Sox have such a player to offer. The Angels, on the other hand, could dangle Brandon Wood — unless, of course, they plan to make Wood their shortstop long-term.

The Angels would be absolutely ridiculously loaded with Santana, but as Rosenthal points out, they don’t have much spending room for Santana and could more then likely net Miguel Cabrera for a little less in the prospect area and a lot less in the pocket.
